A hailstorm on December 2 damaged around 50 hectares of early potato crops in Santa Cruz de Pichiu, affecting over 300 varieties of native potatoes. The crops, located between Huachis and San Pedro de Chaná in the Huari province, Áncash region, were at the tuber formation stage. The damage has raised concerns about food security and the preservation of these local varieties. In response, the Huari agricultural agency has sent a team to assess the damage and provide technical assistance to farmers to mitigate losses and ensure production continuity.
