In February 2023, beef prices in Argentina experienced a significant increase of 29% compared to the previous month, according to the CEPA Price Observatory. This surge was part of a larger year-on-year increase of 76.8% from February 2022. Despite this, the price rise of beef still fell short of the overall economic inflation rate of 101.3% during the same period. The increase was observed across all cuts, with the most significant rise seen in intermediate cuts. The price hike in February was attributed to meat prices remaining below monthly inflation for several months, which was exacerbated by drought affecting forage and pasture, leading to an increase in cattle sales and available supply in the market.
