Argentina's National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa) has declared a nationwide health emergency in response to the first confirmed case of avian influenza in a wild Andean goose, located in Jujuy province. This emergency, outlined in Resolution 147/2023, aims to implement control, prevention, and surveillance measures to deal with the highly pathogenic disease and prevent its spread. Given this is the first detection in Argentina, the country still maintains its avian influenza-free status. Senasa is working closely with various stakeholders to monitor the situation and has called on the productive sector to step up hygiene and biosecurity measures on poultry farms. The public is encouraged to report any symptoms or dead birds to Senasa through various channels.
