The Lublin region of Poland is experiencing significant challenges in its agricultural sector, particularly with young chokeberry (aronia) plantings, as drought and strong frosts have negatively affected the fruit's quality and yield. Despite these setbacks, there are hopes for a good harvest in Podlasie. The increase in aronia cultivation, as reported by the Central Statistical Office, is attributed to previous underestimations of planting areas and a shift from currant to chokeberry due to lower currant prices and labor challenges. The current low prices of chokeberry have not met producers' expectations, and efforts are being made to improve pricing through negotiations with processing plants and by exploring international markets. Polish growers are also struggling with a labor shortage, exacerbated by the war in Ukraine. In pursuit of enhancing the value and global appeal of aronia, companies like Korab Garden Sp.z o.o. are developing innovative products based on 'Super Fruits' such as vinegars and fiber products, aiming to bring more recognition to chokeberry as a 'superfood.'
