The Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) has opened a second representation in Asia, this time in Singapore, to explore business opportunities in Southeast Asia. The region, consisting of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, has a combined population of over 470 million and a growing middle class. In 2020, Brazil's agricultural exports to these countries totaled US$ 7.2 billion, with a growth of 32% compared to 2019. The exports were mainly products like grains, animal protein, sugar, and cotton. However, a significant portion of these products were labeled as European or North American brands, but the inputs were Brazilian. This strategy of re-exporting branded products after adding value is a model that Brazilian agribusiness needs to adopt to expand its reach beyond China.
