[Livestock & Fisheries News=Reporter Hong Jeong-min] The outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) from the beginning of the year has caused an emergency alert for the quarantine authorities. With the Lunar New Year, the start of the national mass movement, approaching, the related industry is falling into a state of panic, and the aftermath is proving to be significant. Since the beginning of this year, ASF outbreaks occurred on the 16th of last month in Gangneung, Gangwon, on the 23rd in Anseong, Gyeonggi, on the 24th in Pocheon, and on the 26th in Yeonggwang, Jeonnam. These regions are expected to present difficulties in epidemiological investigation as they had no detection of the ASF virus in wild boars over the past year. In particular, Yeonggwang is perceived to have a relatively higher level of quarantine compared to general farms, being a breeding pig production farm for breeding sows.
