Malaysia to review tariffs on Pakistani rice

(By Planet Rice) Malaysia has agreed to review its tariffs on Pakistani rice, bringing them in line with the tariffs applied to rice imports from other sources, an official said on Saturday. The Cabinet Office, in a statement following a conversation between Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, said Shehbaz expressed satisfaction with the amicable resolution of several trade-related issues identified during his recent visit to the buyer country. However, the statement did not specify which trade issues had been resolved. During his visit to Pakistan in October, Malaysian Prime Minister Ibrahim had expressed interest in importing 100,000 tonnes of Pakistani rice, as well as animal proteins.
