Hungarian melons will be available in stores in increasing quantities from the beginning of July, with production expected to yield around 140,000 to 160,000 tons this year, including 15,000 tons of melons and the rest watermelons. The proportion of grafted and hybrid melons in Hungary's production has reached 95 percent, making production more efficient and disease-resistant. The National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK), the Association of Hungarian Melon Growers (MDE), and the FruitVeB - Hungarian Vegetable and Fruit Association have agreed to improve the market positions of Hungarian melons and expect to export a third of the melons produced this year to Polish, Czech, Slovak, and German markets.
