In June 2025, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) announced that Hungary had again become free of highly pathogenic avian influenza. The continent itself is not spared, as per the Nébih's November 7th announcement, since September 1, 2025, experts have detected the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in a total of 159 poultry farms, 37 facilities holding captive birds, and 1272 wild birds in Europe.
