In June 2025, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) announced that Hungary had again become free of highly pathogenic avian influenza. We could only rejoice at this information for a few months, because the disease reared its head again in several counties. The continent itself is not spared, as per the Nébih's November 7th announcement, since September 1, 2025, experts have detected the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in a total of 159 poultry farms, 37 facilities holding captive birds, and 1272 wild birds in Europe.
