The article highlights a 17% decrease in pangasius exports to China-Hong Kong in the first half of December 2021, with a total value of 416 million USD, primarily due to trade barriers and reduced processing capacity because of Covid-19 precautions. These issues have affected not only Vietnamese pangasius processors but also exporters of other seafood products like Russian pollock, Norwegian salmon, and Indian shrimp. Despite these challenges, Vietnam remains one of the top three suppliers of white fish products to China-Hong Kong. However, there is an expectation for an increase in pangasius imports in the future, as Chinese importers are planning to increase purchases and Chinese ports have announced the reopening of cargo ports to promote trade.
