Australia has secured an agreement to export plums to Vietnam, expanding its horticulture exports beyond peaches and nectarines. This agreement is part of a two-way agricultural market access agreement aimed at supplying Australian plums to Vietnam and Vietnamese passion fruit to Australia. The trade value of Australian agricultural exports to Vietnam is projected to reach AUD 3.7 billion (USD 2.5 billion) by 2023-24. Negotiations are also underway for the export of Australian blueberries to Vietnam and Vietnamese grapefruit to Australia. The Australian government emphasizes the importance of Vietnam as a diversification market for Australian exporters and is focused on opening up the agricultural sector to create more jobs and better wages for agricultural workers.
