Australia's beef exports hit a 19-year low in 2022 due to a decrease in livestock numbers, climatic issues, and processing chain challenges. The total export volume was 854,592 tons, the lowest since 2003. Japan was the largest buyer, followed by South Korea and the United States. In contrast, China's imports of Australian beef saw a marginal increase. The United States, with its surplus of beef, became the fourth largest market. Meanwhile, Ireland has resumed meat exports to China after a suspension of over two and a half years.
