Australian weaner prices only half of what similar age cattle make in EU

Australian weaners are only making half of what similar age cattle are making in some parts of Europe. That's according to a national and European cattle price analysis by ACM Agri. Saleyard prices for weaner cattle, aged 10-12 months, are trending approximately 50 per cent lower than prices hit at saleyards in countries such as Ireland and the United Kingdom. Meat & Livestock Australia's (MLA) latest national young cattle indicator (NYCI) report puts weaner steer prices at 392 cents a kilogram and weaner heifer prices at 285c/kg. Within this, the NYCI index puts average national prices for 280-330kg weaners at 334c/g and 330-400kg weaners at 328c/kg. The weight index incorporated both steer and heifer averages. These average prices, recorded from cattle saleyards across Australia, are far below those achieved by producers in Europe.
