Australia's grain producers have expanded the area for marginal crops, planting 23.6 million hectares with favorable weather conditions anticipated. The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Science (ABARES) predicts substantial increases in wheat, barley, and pulse production for 2024-25. Wheat production is expected to grow by 12% to 29.1 million tonnes, barley by 7% to 11.5 million tonnes, and chickpea production by 133% to 1.1 million tonnes. Lentil acreage is projected to hit a record 885,000 hectares, with production doubling the ten-year average. Despite a 5% decline in rapeseed production, overall winter crop harvests are forecasted to be above average.
