In April 2023, Australia saw a 2% increase in lamb exports compared to the previous year, with the largest market being China, the Middle East, and North Africa. However, exports to the US decreased sharply. Mature lamb (mutton) exports also increased by 48%, with China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East being the main importers. Mexico experienced a 992% increase in Australian lamb imports. In Ireland, lamb prices fluctuated, with a 10c/kg increase at Kildare Chilling store due to severe weather affecting sheep production. France has reported a decrease in mutton shops' purchases of lamb due to expected rain, but the market still faces a limited supply and reasonable prices.
