The average price of chicken in Metropolitan Lima's retail markets has increased to S/ 9.18 per kilogram as of November 4, with some markets charging as much as S/ 10 per kilogram. This price hike is due to reduced chicken availability and a recovery in domestic demand, as stated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri). The wholesale price of chicken also rose to S/ 6.45 per kilogram, marking a 49.8% increase from October and a 56.3% increase from the same period in 2019. From January to September of this year, chicken supply decreased by 13.5% compared to the same period in 2019, and domestic demand dropped significantly during the health emergency, particularly from restaurants and hotels.
