Taiwan is experiencing an outbreak of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza, with 12 cases reported across four native chicken farms, following earlier outbreaks in duck and goose farms. The Council of Agriculture assures that the poultry meat and egg supplies remain stable, with sufficient reserves to meet demand. The outbreak has not impacted laying hen farms thus far. The majority of poultry farms have been quarantined and infected birds culled in accordance with regulations. The Council is implementing enhanced epidemic prevention measures over the autumn and winter, including border controls and inspections of livestock transportation. No significant impact on egg production has been reported, and imports of eggs from Japan are supplementing the local supply.
