Avian influenza: Uruguay will acquire 10 million doses to vaccinate chickens

The holder of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) of Uruguay, Fernando Mattos, informed, this Thursday, 23, at the Legislative Palace, that seven outbreaks of avian flu were detected, which are distributed in the departments of Maldonado, Tacuarembó , Montevideo , Canelones and, recently, at Tálice park, in Flores. “Clearly, this shows that there is a viral circulation and that we run a growing risk of affecting the productive system”, said the chief. He also indicated that, in line with the recommendations of the MGAP vaccines committee and experts, the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, had decided to start inoculation with two doses, for laying and breeding hens. In this sense, he mentioned that in the coming weeks two types of vaccines will arrive: the inactivated and the vectorized, which will be acquired in France and Mexico.
