Kenyan avocado exports to China reached Sh9 billion from March to May 2023, an increase from the Sh7 billion earned in the previous October. This success is despite competition from Chile, the global leader in avocado production. The number of licensed exporters has risen to 78, including 58 farms and 20 pack houses, up from 25 the previous year. The Kenya Plants Inspectorate Service (Kephis) has emphasized the need for compliance with Chinese regulations for fresh avocado exports, such as registration of production facilities and adherence to Chinese phytosanitary laws.
