Avocado production grows in Brazil; see the most consumed types

Avocado is one of the fruits that has stood out the most in the Brazilian agricultural sector in recent years. According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), fruit production in the country increased from 197 thousand tons in 2016 to 301 thousand tons in 2021, increasing 53%, a growth inferior only to the grape crop. The states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and the Federal District are the ones that produce the most fruit. However, avocado cultivation has expanded to other areas, such as Ceará, which benefits from the off-season periods of the main Brazilian producers. According to projections by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), avocados could become the second most commercialized tropical fruit by 2030, behind only bananas and surpassing sales of mangoes and pineapples.
