Bulgaria is facing a series of outbreaks of animal diseases, largely spread through imported feed, leading to the destruction of family production and a reliance on foreign trade chains. The total annual volume of this trade is approximately 50 billion euros. The diseases, including foot and mouth, bird flu, and African swine fever, are strategically controlled by laboratories in Romania and Ukraine. The Bulgarian Animal Health Authority (BABH) has opened a hotline for reports of violations but lacks transparency and efficiency. The BABH's policy and inadequate actions are seen as supporting Western European schemes that favor family production destruction and foreign trade chains, causing significant economic losses for local farmers.
