Banana prices in Ukraine are breaking records

Banana prices in Eastern Europe are currently at record highs for this time of year. And although the exceedance of previous record price levels is relatively small, it has a negative impact on the outlook for consumption. This is reported by EastFruit analysts. "We can note two main reasons for the increase in banana prices in Eastern Europe this year. The first is climate change, which has a negative impact on the volume of production of these fruits in the countries of Central America. As a result, demand for bananas from Ecuador, which is the main supplier of bananas to Ukraine and other countries in the region, has increased dramatically, leading to higher prices in Ecuador. The second reason is relatively high prices for apples, which allows retail and wholesale trade to raise prices for bananas as well," explains Andriy Yarmak, economist of the investment department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
