Turkey: Banana production increased 4 times in 10 years

In Turkey, banana production, which could be done in the Anamur and Bozyazı districts of Mersin and the Gazipaşa and Alanya districts of Antalya until 2015, increased nearly fourfold with greenhouse production with subsidized agricultural credits, grants and supports provided to producers. Bananas, which were produced in open areas on the coast in Anamur, Bozyazı, Alanya and Gazipaşa for many years, can now be harvested in greenhouses, greenhouses and 12 months of the year in almost all coastal districts of these two provinces. ANNUAL PRODUCTION EXCEEDED 900 THOUSAND TONS Banana production, which was between 210-270 thousand tons between 2010-2015, started to increase rapidly from 2016 onwards. It increased to 305 thousand tons in 2016, 369 thousand tons in 2017, 498 thousand tons in 2018, 548 thousand tons in 2019, 728 thousand tons in 2020, 883 thousand tons in 2021, and 997 thousand tons in 2022.
