Banana production in Turkey has seen a significant increase, particularly in the Anamur and Bozyazı districts of Mersin and the Gazipaşa and Alanya districts of Antalya, due to the use of greenhouses and with the support of agricultural credits, grants, and subsidies. The annual production of bananas has grown from 210-270 thousand tons between 2010-2015 to over 900 thousand tons in 2023, with plans to exceed 1 million tons in 2024. Greenhouse areas in Manavgat have grown to over 20 thousand acres, enabling 12-month production. The producer price is currently at $1 per kilogram. The production method is also said to be more water-efficient than earlier methods.
