Bangladesh has emerged as the world's third-largest importer of apples, with 271,000 tons imported in the 2019-2020 period, according to the USDA. This places Bangladesh behind Russia and the EU, with Mexico and Egypt following as the fourth and fifth largest importers. The country's apple consumption reached 5.94 million tons, which is 5% of global imports. This surge in apple imports is attributed to increasing purchasing power and growing health consciousness in the country. However, the attempt to cultivate apples domestically has not been successful due to Bangladesh's high temperatures and short winter.
