Barley for beer production – malthouses and breweries indicate a barley deficit

The main problem is the lack of adequate quantity and quality of grains needed for the production of malt – according to the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) after examining the characteristics of the Polish malt market for beer production. UOKiK emphasizes that Poland is one of the main beer producers in the European Union. It points to the latest Eurostat data, which show that more than one in ten bottles of EU beer is produced in our country (about 3.4 billion liters). We occupy the third place in this regard – after Germany (7.2 billion liters) and Spain (4 billion liters). Therefore, the Office decided to examine the functioning of this market and the relations that prevail on it, including the market for grains needed for the production of beer malt.
