Basic Food Basket Prices in Brazil Rise in Past Six Months: Brasília Sees Fastest Increase, São Paulo Most Expensive

The Brazilian National News Agency reported on May 26 that the platform monitored price changes in the basic food basket for the eight most populous state capitals. Data shows that during the survey period, except for Brasília, the average prices of basic food baskets in Curitiba, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, and Fortaleza also increased, with increases of 3.3%, 3.1%, 1.9%, and 0.07%, respectively. On the other hand, the same indicator for Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, and Manaus showed declines of 0.9%, 3.6%, and 5.8%. Among the surveyed state capitals, São Paulo topped the most expensive basic food basket ranking, with an average price of 991.8 reais.
