The Ministry of Agriculture in Indonesia is focusing on increasing cassava production to be used as a substitute for wheat and other commodities in the food and feed industries, due to a rise in demand for cassava during the COVID-19 pandemic and extreme climate conditions. The ministry is implementing a 15,000-hectare Nusantara Food Area in Central Sulawesi, using sustainable planting methods and high-yielding seeds. The plan also includes intercropping, monoculture, and the involvement of farmer corporations. Cassava farmers are also encouraged to use unutilized yards or fields for cassava cultivation to produce derivative products.
