Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, has pledged to address the 'legitimate' demands of protesting farmers who are upset over reduced income, environmental regulations, free trade agreements, and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) requirements. De Croo believes that the Belgian federal government, currently presiding over the Council of the European Union, can help resolve these issues at a European level. In response to the protests, the European Commission plans to approve a temporary derogation from regulations that mandate certain lands to be kept fallow.
