In spite of the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Colombian fruit exports have experienced a notable increase of 9.37% in the first four months of the year, as reported by ProColombia. The total export revenue for fruit products during this period reached US $ 125.3 million, up from US $ 114.6 million in the same timeframe in 2019. This growth is primarily driven by avocado and banana exports, which increased by 20.8% and 18.6% respectively. Other fruits such as blueberries, passion fruit, mangoes, watermelons, Tahiti lemons, and papayas also contributed to the growth in exports. The Netherlands is the leading market for Colombian fruit exports, followed by the USA, with the European market showing a significant increase in demand. Despite facing logistical challenges, the fruit and vegetable export sector in Colombia remains robust, with prospects for growth, particularly in demand for vitamin C-rich fruits.
