From the 2015/2016 campaign to the 2020/2021 campaign, Peru's blueberry exports experienced a dramatic increase of 1,154%, rising from 12,951 tons to 162,459 tons. The 2021/2022 campaign saw exports reach 218,872 tons, with the United States, the Netherlands, and China being the primary markets. The planted area for blueberry cultivation also significantly increased by 322%, occupying 16,566 hectares in 2021. The industry has also seen a diversification in blueberry varieties, with Peru planting 60 varieties in 2021 compared to 13 in 2016. This growth has led to the creation of 120,000 direct jobs in the 2021/2022 campaign, predominantly held by women. To continue this growth, the industry emphasizes the need for demand to match supply, government support, and collaboration with the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa).
