Brazil Regains Avian Influenza Free Status After Outbreak in Rio Grande do Sul

Brazil has once again self-declared itself free of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in commercial farms. The announcement was made this Wednesday (18th) by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), which officially notified the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) about the end of the sanitary void, as provided for in international protocols. According to information released by Mapa, the sanitary void period began on May 22, immediately after the conclusion of disinfection at the farm located in Montenegro (RS), where the only outbreak of the disease in a commercial environment in the country was recorded on May 16. With no new records and all required actions completed, Brazil officially recovers its disease-free status.
