Brazil releases data from 1,400 fishing boats to global platform

Brazil released tracking data for 1,400 industrial fishing boats through the Global Fishing Watch (GFW) platform, a platform created in order to monitor fishing vessels on a global scale. In a statement, the National Secretariat of Aquaculture and Fisheries, of the Ministry of Agriculture, assesses that the opening of the data aims to support the science and management of fisheries in the country. “The partnership with Global Fishing Watch is a great opportunity for the Brazilian fishing industry to show its potential to the world, as well as our intention to promote the modernization of fisheries management in our Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), making decisions based on evidence and leverage transparency”, highlights the Secretary of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Jorge Seif Junior, in the note.
