A recent study by Embrapa Pesca e Aquicultura and the Associação Brasileira da Piscicultura has revealed that Brazilian fish farming exports experienced a significant surge in 2022, with revenues growing by 15% to reach a record-breaking U$S 23.8 million. The United States was the primary consumer, accounting for 81% of these exports. There was a notable 28% increase in tilapia exports, with Paraná being the leading state for this fish's export. The sector saw a substantial growth in the export of frozen fillets, with a 98% increase between 2021 and 2022. Despite challenges such as global economic slowdown and increased production costs, Brazil's fish farming industry managed to expand by 2% in 2022. Paraná was the state that exported the most fish farming products, followed by Mato Grosso do Sul and Bahia, with São Paulo experiencing the most significant growth of 127% compared to the previous year.
