Breaking news! Uzbekistan suspends import of Chinese oranges and pineapples.

Recently, relevant departments in the Uzbekistan government stated that due to multiple instances of quarantine pests being found in imported goods, the country has temporarily banned the import of citrus fruits and pineapples from China. The Central Plant Quarantine Laboratory of Uzbekistan conducted tests on samples collected from the citrus and pineapple shipments and found citrus whitefly, Oriental citrus scale, and pineapple mealybug. Officials said that these pests were found in nearly 20 different batches of goods, raising concerns about potential agricultural risks within Uzbekistan. Customs statistics show that in 2025, China exported approximately 14,300 tons of fresh citrus fruits to Uzbekistan, with an export value of 85,244,000 yuan; and about 4,582 tons of fresh pineapples, with an export value of 29,871,000 yuan. The Uzbek authorities have officially notified relevant Chinese departments and provided laboratory test results and related proof documents. As part of the interim measures, Uzbekistan has suspended the issuance of quarantine permits for importing citrus fruits and pineapples from China. This ban will remain in effect until the identified plant quarantine risks have been completely eliminated. Meanwhile, Uzbekistan and China continue to expand agricultural cooperation, including plans to invest $10 million in building an agricultural machinery factory to support local farmers and reduce dependence on imports. Officials noted that the temporary import ban will not affect the broader bilateral agricultural projects between the two countries.
