Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde and plant biologists have developed a 'light-recipe' for crops that can enhance their growth and productivity using multi-colored LED lights. The lights, which turn the field blue and red in the evening, extend the hours of light exposure for the crops and can reduce the use of pesticides by up to 50%. The lights have been shown to strengthen the plants' internal mechanisms, increasing their output and building stronger resistance to pests and diseases. Trials are being conducted in the US to assess the effectiveness of the lights on other crops.
