Spain: Brussels registers "Teruel Pork" as a protected geographical indication

The European Commission has registered the name "Cerdo de Teruel" as a protected geographical indication (PGI), after the request made by Spain and as the body has not received any statement of opposition to it, as stated in the Official Gazette of the Union Union (OJEU). The name Cerdo de Teruel has been registered in the category of "fresh meat and offal" of the Register of Protected Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications of the European Union (EU), the information specifies. Spain made the registration request to the European Commission last April, detailing that the Teruel Pork nomenclature applies to the meat of swine that are raised, slaughtered and butchered in the province of Teruel. The request detailed that it is a reddish-pinkish meat that presents intramuscular fat infiltration and that when consumed it is juicy, tender meat with a mild flavor.
