[Korean Farmers' News Agency, Reporter Gu Jeong-min] The government's formalization of its plan to reduce the area of flour rice cultivation and discontinue support has sparked strong opposition from farmers. The government, which had encouraged participation by promoting the development of the flour rice industry, reversed its policy in just two years, leading to widespread accusations of betrayal in the field. The Buan County Council recently adopted a motion urging the withdrawal of the plan to reduce the area of flour rice cultivation and discontinue support. The council called for the government to immediately withdraw the plan and to establish practical measures for stabilizing the industry. According to the Buan County Council, the government plans to stabilize rice supply and demand and strengthen food security from 2023 onwards by reducing the area of flour rice cultivation.
