Chile: Bulk cargo rates for Handysize vessels stabilize at US$16,000 on WCSA-Far East route

The charter rate for bulk carriers for the West Coast of South America (Callao) – Far East route (Fig. A) notified during week 27 of 2024 reached US$16,000 for Handysize vessels, representing 120% of the reference value of the Baltic Dry Index (BHSI), maintaining its value compared to week 26. Likewise, for Supramax ships, the rate reached US$22,000, equivalent to 150% of the BSI, the same value compared to week 26. While the rate for Ultramax ships, reached US$24,000, which represents 163%, also maintaining the value of the BSI reference index compared to week 26. On the West Coast of South America (Callao)-Northern Europe route (Fig.B), the freight rates for Handysize vessels reached US$12,000, equivalent to 90% of the BHS reference rate, maintaining its value compared to week 26.
