The Sejm adopted last Friday (November 7) with a majority of votes the government's draft Act on Amendments to the Act - Penal Code and the Act - Code of Criminal Procedure. Prepared by the Ministry of Justice, the act primarily provides for an increase in the maximum fine for offenses related to fires (Article 82 par. 1–5 of the Penal Code) from the current 5,000 PLN to 30,000 PLN. Among these offenses, one can point to those concerning the burning of grass. This refers to the provision: "Anyone who burns grass, straw, or plant remains on fields within a distance of less than 100 meters from buildings, forests, grain on the trunk, and places of stacks or haystacks, or in a manner causing disturbances in road traffic, and without ensuring constant supervision of the burning site, shall be liable to arrest, a fine, or a reprimand."
