The Hong Kong Food Safety Center (CFS) has halted the import of chicken meat and eggs from regions in Germany including Emsland and Niedersachsen due to an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza. In the first quarter of the year, Hong Kong had imported approximately 180 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and 0.53 million poultry eggs from these affected areas. The CFS is keeping the situation under observation and will adjust import restrictions based on information from the OIE and local authorities.
