The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has updated the International Health Certificate (CSI) to allow the export of fresh boneless meat and raw processed meat products from specific Brazilian states and municipalities recognized as free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination by the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO). These regions include Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Acre, Rondônia, and parts of Mato Grosso and Amazonas, with eleven establishments now authorized to export beef to Canada. Previously, only Santa Catarina had this recognition, with one authorized slaughterhouse. The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock is also working to remove the vaccination requirement for raw meat exports. In 2023, Brazil exported over $10.541 billion worth of beef, with Canada importing $39 million, an 18% increase from 2022.
