The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has updated the International Health Certificate (CSI) to allow the export of fresh boneless meat and raw processed meat products from Brazilian cattle to Canada. This update includes regions in Brazil recognized as free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination by the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO), with eleven establishments now authorized to export beef to Canada. Previously, only Santa Catarina was recognized by Canada as free of the disease without vaccination. The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock is working to eliminate the vaccination requirement for raw meat exports. In 2023, Brazil exported over $10.541 billion worth of beef, with Canada importing $39 million worth, an 18% increase from 2022.
