Following the cases of African swine fever (ASF) detected in the province of Barcelona, "Canada has confirmed that it is betting on regionalization" for exports of Spanish pork, according to information released on Monday by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). In 2024, our country exported pork products to Canada for 10.81 million euros, of which the vast majority (7.9 million) are obtained from the shipment of pork. It is a country of growing interest for pork interests because between January and October of this year, and pending the knowledge of the last quarter, Spain already matched the turnover of the whole of 2024, according to the Ministry. Brazil, Colombia, Taiwan, and Namibia have also announced new requirements to allow the entry of some pork products. In contrast, more than a hundred export health certificates remain blocked by nearly 40 countries.
