The Canary Islands are experiencing a crisis in banana production due to various weather-related risks. The eruption of La Palma in 2022, record heat in 2023 with low profitability, climatic reasons until February 2024, spring drop in temperatures, and drought have all contributed to the instability. As a result, the commercialization of Plátano de Canarias is 17 million kilos lower than the same period in 2023. Despite a gradual increase in production due to rising average temperatures, the trend shows that production fluctuations may become more common.
