The Minister of Agriculture of the Generalitat, Òscar Ordeig, has explained that they have opened a line of credit and are studying other measures of support for the livestock sector due to African swine fever (ASF), while also launching a plan to further improve the biosecurity of farms. Ordeig appeared at the Palau de la Generalitat after a meeting with mayors of towns within a 20-kilometer radius of the surveillance zone of the Collserola area (Barcelona) where ASF was detected, a meeting that also included the Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau, and the Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon. Last Friday, the first two cases of swine fever in wild boars were detected on the outskirts of the Bellaterra campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona), a disease that is highly lethal among pigs but does not affect humans.
