CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer raised concerns about the decline in Turkey's cattle population, which has fallen by approximately 2 million since 2020, despite imports. He attributed this decrease to increasing costs, such as feed and interest rates, which are negatively impacting small and medium-sized animal husbandry businesses. Gürer argued that the situation is pushing breeders to quit the industry, potentially leading to higher meat and milk prices for consumers. He called for support for domestic producers and criticized the import of over 1 million 300 thousand animals, advocating for the development of domestic producers instead. Farmer Süleyman Demirbaş also shared his struggles, highlighting the significant increase in feed and loan interest rates, which have led to higher costs for his dairy farming business.
