It is unlikely that there is a farmer in Bulgaria who has not heard of the CBAM – the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. But how many of them know exactly how it will affect them? On January 1, the process of implementing the mechanism in practice officially started, and with it come new costs and new requirements for the industry and agriculture. The problem is that by the end of 2025, clear rules are still missing. "We have our doubts whether agricultural producers are fully aware of what awaits us from January 1," commented Georgi Borissov, Commercial Director of "Agropolichim," during the annual seminar of the NAZ in Albena. "In the last two years, a lot has been said, but the real picture remains unclear.
