The Ministry of Agriculture in Morocco has announced a significant decrease in the estimated production of major grains, including soft wheat, durum wheat, and barley, for the 2023/2024 agricultural season. The production is projected to be 43 percent lower than the previous season at 31.2 million quintals. The cultivated area has also decreased by 33 percent to 2.47 million hectares. Despite these challenges, which include abnormal climate conditions, water stress, and a delay in rainfall, the agricultural sector has managed to maintain supply to the national market. Vegetable production has been sufficient to meet demand, and the sector is expected to benefit from favorable weather conditions in March for spring crops.
