The Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA) has reported a significant increase in cereal production in West Africa for the 2022/23 agropastoral campaign, with a total of 77.231 million tonnes, marking a 7.7% increase from the previous year and a 6.2% rise compared to the average of the last five years. The production of millet, wheat, barley, sorghum, and corn saw substantial growth, with the largest increases reported in Niger, Mali, Liberia, and Burkina Faso. However, cereal production in Sierra Leone experienced a decrease. The region also saw a 3% increase in the production of roots and tubers, but despite these production gains, the number of people affected by food and nutritional insecurity has risen from 10.7 million in June 2019 to 42.5 million in June 2023.
