Cereals: estimate for a decline in EU wheat production

Wheat production in the EU for the year 2024/2025 is forecast at around 132 million tonnes, according to USDA data on world wheat production. This production is lower by 2.2 million tons compared to the previous year, and correspondingly shows a decrease in the level of 2% compared to the 5-year average. The harvested area is estimated at 23.4 million hectares, which is 0.8 million hectares less than last year and 0.6 million hectares less than the five-year average. Production is estimated at 5.64 tons per hectare, which is a 2% increase compared to the previous year and a 1% increase compared to the five-year average. Weather conditions in the autumn prevented sowing and cultivation activities in north-west Europe, while there are concerns about the recent heavy spring rains in arable areas in both France and Germany.
